According to police, Cox and her mother took the baby to a hospital on February 7, where doctors found the infant had a broken femur and bruises on her face. Further tests revealed 29 fractures, including broken ribs, legs, and arms.
Hospital staff told detectives that Cox and her mother kept changing their story about how the injuries happened.
At first, they claimed the baby had fallen. Later, they asked if the injuries could have been caused by someone dropping her. Eventually, Cox blamed a doctor’s visit earlier that day and said she only noticed the injuries hours later.
Doctors found the fractures were in different stages of healing, suggesting the injuries occurred over time. Police and child services immediately removed the baby and her sibling from the home, where Cox, Moore, and Cox’s parents all lived.
After nearly a year of investigation, authorities arrested Cox and Moore. Both face charges of child cruelty and aggravated battery. They were released from jail on bond, but officials have not shared an update on the baby’s current condition.
