Tesla’s Latest Update Brings Hands-Free Access to the Frunk – Here is How It Works

Tesla has just made it easier to access the front trunk, or “frunk,” with a simple but clever update. The latest Software Update 2024.32.3 introduces a hands-free feature that allows users to open the frunk without lifting a finger.

How it Works

With this update, opening the frunk is a breeze. All you need to do is stand in front of the frunk with your Phone Key nearby, and a chime will sound. Then, the frunk will automatically open by itself. This is especially helpful if your hands are full —no need to set anything down to open the trunk.

This hands-free frunk feature is now available for the newest versions of the Model 3 (called the “Highland”), as well as the Model S and Model X.

For those unfamiliar, the frunk is a storage area located at the front of most electric vehicles (EVs), since they don’t have traditional engines. While some gas-powered sports cars also have frunks due to rear engines, they’re more common in EVs.

Different car manufacturers are also adding their own unique twists to the frunk’s design. For instance, Ford’s Mustang Mach-E comes with a built-in drain plug, so owners can use the frunk as a cooler.

With this new update, Tesla is making the frunk even more practical, showing once again how small changes can greatly improve the driving experience.
