Tim Mulvey, the former spokesperson for the January 6 Committee, has spoken out against a recent report by House Republicans. He called the report “cherry-picked” and accused it of trying to discredit the committee’s investigation while unfairly targeting former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY).

Mulvey said this kind of rhetoric, along with the GOP’s threats to prosecute their political opponents, is a worrying sign of what’s to come.
“It’s ridiculous and a bit scary, but sadly, not surprising,” Mulvey said in an interview on CNN’s OutFront. He criticized Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), who released the report, for recycling “the same baseless claims” about the January 6 investigation.
According to Mulvey, Loudermilk regularly uses selective evidence, claiming it’s some kind of “smoking gun,” but the claims don’t hold up.
Mulvey also defended Cassidy Hutchinson, a key witness in the investigation, saying that she’s being targeted simply for telling the truth. “It’s no surprise they’re now going after Liz Cheney for having the courage to uncover the facts about January 6,” he added.
But Mulvey’s concerns go beyond Cheney. He pointed out a disturbing trend where some politicians seem to think the justice system exists to punish their enemies. He mentioned lawsuits against media outlets for critical reporting and efforts to criminalize congressional oversight as examples of this pattern.
“If this is a preview of the future, it’s a dangerous road we’re heading down,” Mulvey warned. He urged people to pay attention to these developments, as they could have serious consequences for democracy.
