Kinzinger joked that the next four years could be seen as the “President Elon” era, with Trump stepping into the role of “Vice President.”
“First of all, let me just say, thank God I’m no longer in Congress,” Kinzinger said during an interview on CNN. “This whole last-minute Christmas deadline nonsense is something I know too well. It’s the same old game every year.”

Kinzinger didn’t sugarcoat things, saying the next four years are likely to be “messy” based on what’s happening now. Still, he doesn’t believe a government shutdown will happen, predicting lawmakers will scramble to pass a temporary fix just so they can head home for Christmas.
“They’ll come up with a one-month band-aid and act like that solves everything,” he said. “But it’s obvious Musk is already making his priorities clear for the years ahead.”
