A 22-year-old man from Owosso, Michigan, Mack Davis, could face life in federal prison after authorities say they stopped him from carrying out a deadly plan targeting LGBTQ people, according to a report from FOX 2.
Police searched Davis’ home and found a disturbing collection of weapons, including two guns, hundreds of bullets, a crossbow, bomb-making materials, smoke grenades, tactical gear, and knives—one of which reportedly had a slur engraved on it... Continue reading here ▶
Investigators also found a journal where he wrote about his plans for a mass shooting, research on how to carry it out, and a list of items he needed. On social media, he allegedly posted about his potential targets, including a political office and an LGBTQ bar.
Davis first caught the attention of police when he began harassing his gay neighbors. He spray-painted slurs on their cars and illegally fired 60 rounds from a modified short-barrel rifle into nearby homes. When police searched his home, they uncovered evidence of his alleged plans.
Although Davis denied planning a mass shooting, he admitted to vandalizing his neighbors’ cars and owning the illegal rifle.
“This case is chilling,” said U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison. “He planned to take countless lives because of his hatred for gay people. Thankfully, law enforcement stopped him before he could act.”
This case comes shortly after a similar incident in Arizona, where police arrested a man suspected of shooting at Democratic Party offices. That suspect was found with a large stash of weapons, including 120 firearms and a grenade launcher, raising fears of politically motivated violence.
Law enforcement continues to emphasize the importance of stopping these threats before they turn into tragedies.
