Celebrities and Their Smiles
It’s no secret that Hollywood stars go to great lengths for their perfect smiles. According to Atrium Dental, an estimated 90% of celebrities have had some form of dental work. Big names like Tom Cruise, Zac Efron, Demi Moore, and Victoria Beckham are rumored to have porcelain veneers. But for the rest of us, small changes to our daily habits can make a big difference.
1. Hold Off on Brushing After Coffee
If you’re a coffee lover, this one’s for you. Dr. Shaadi warns against brushing your teeth immediately after sipping your morning brew.
“Coffee is quite acidic,” she explains. “If you brush right away, you’re essentially scrubbing that acid into your enamel, causing wear and tear.”
Instead, wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before brushing. In the meantime, rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash to neutralize the acidity.
2. Avoid Brushing Right After Vomiting
When you’re unwell and vomiting, it might seem logical to brush your teeth to freshen up, but Dr. Shaadi advises against it.
“Stomach contents are extremely acidic. Brushing immediately after vomiting can spread the acid and damage your enamel further,” she says. Like with coffee, wait 30 to 60 minutes before brushing.
3. Brush Before, Not After Breakfast
Surprisingly, the timing of your morning brushing routine matters too. According to Dr. Shaadi, brushing before breakfast is better for your teeth.
“When you wake up, your mouth is full of bacteria that needs to be removed before you eat,” she explains. Brushing afterward can push food particles and acids deeper into your teeth.
Protect Your Smile Without the Extras
By following these simple tips, you can maintain whiter, healthier teeth without the need for whitening strips or cosmetic procedures. A few small adjustments to your daily routine can go a long way in preserving your pearly whites.
So next time you sip your coffee or sit down for breakfast, remember these expert insights. Your teeth will thank you.
