The heartbreaking incident has left the community in shock as police launch a manhunt for two teen suspects.
Authorities say Ezekiel Burden, 17, and Brian Campbell, 18, are wanted in connection with the shooting, which unfolded at the Woodforest Bank inside the Walmart Supercenter.
Police believe the teens were targeting specific individuals in the line, but Brandy, an innocent bystander with no connection to the attackers, was fatally struck. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Brandy was well-known in the Lumberton area, both as a bar worker and a cherished member of her community. Her former employer, Wing Company, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook:
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of a former member of our Wing Company family, Brandy Olson. She was a kind-hearted spirit who could light up any room. Please pray for her family and friends during this difficult time. We’ve set up a memorial seat for those wishing to honor her memory. Rest in peace, Brandy. We will miss your smiling face.”
Friends and former colleagues echoed the sentiment, sharing memories of Brandy’s warmth, humor, and vibrant personality. One friend wrote:
“You didn’t deserve this. I’ll miss seeing you at the bar, laughing at your goofball moments, and saying ‘bye white girl’ after shifts. Rest in peace. You’ll forever be missed.”
The Lumberton Police Department is urgently searching for Burden and Campbell, releasing their photos and charges to the public. Burden faces charges of first-degree murder, discharging a firearm to incite fear, and carrying a weapon to terrorize the public. Campbell has been charged as an accessory after the fact.
In a statement, police urged anyone with information about the suspects to come forward:
“The Lumberton Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Ezekiel Burden and Brian Campbell. If you have any information about their whereabouts, please contact us at 910-671-3845.”
