A Missouri man has been arrested after admitting to killing his 75-year-old father, police said.

An autopsy later revealed that his father, Edward Goedde, had been stabbed about 50 times. It also showed he had broken bones, signs of strangulation, and blunt force injuries to his head, face, and back, according to a complaint filed on Dec. 19.
In the complaint, Jeffrey Goedde said he found his father unconscious in the kitchen, bleeding from his face and back after being attacked with various weapons. He admitted he might have used a kitchen knife but said he couldn’t remember for sure.
When officers went to the family’s home on Baxter Heights, they noticed a strong smell of bleach coming from the house. Concerned, they entered through a basement window. Goedde reportedly told police he knew he couldn’t leave the house because he had accidentally killed someone.
Inside, officers found Edward Goedde’s body in the kitchen, along with a kitchen knife in a nearby trash can. After this discovery, Jeffrey Goedde asked for a lawyer and refused to answer further questions.
Jeffrey Goedde has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held at St. Louis County Jail without bond. His court hearing is scheduled for Jan. 16, where a judge will decide the next steps in the case.
