A one-year-old boy from California, Micah Demskiy, is being remembered as a “kind and joyful soul” after his father, Andrey Demskiy, was accused of killing him in a horrific act.
The tragedy happened early on December 20, 2024, when Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies responded to a 911 call about a family disturbance.
Police say Andrey Demskiy, 28, assaulted his wife and mother-in-law before locking himself inside the home with his toddler son.
When officers forced their way inside, they found Demskiy resisting arrest and discovered the child’s severed head in a bedroom.
Authorities confirmed that Demskiy used a knife to kill the child. He was arrested and charged with murder, assault, and domestic violence. He remains in jail without bail, with his next court date set for December 24.
Micah’s family is devastated by the loss. A GoFundMe campaign created to support the family has raised over $57,000, far surpassing its original $25,000 goal.
The campaign described Micah as a joyful boy who loved people, dogs, and singing hymns with his family. The boy’s mother, Angelina Demskiy, has asked for prayers and support during this painful time.
The mother-in-law, who was injured in the incident, was taken to the hospital but is expected to recover.
Police described the crime as one of the most horrifying cases they’ve ever encountered, leaving both officers and the community deeply shaken.
Outside the family’s home, a memorial has been created with flowers, teddy bears, and candles to honor Micah’s memory.
