Weber told officers the girl had been experiencing diarrhea for about a month and had not eaten solid foods for six months.
Police also allege Weber didn’t take the child to a doctor during this time.
The warrant stated, “This led to the minor child being severely malnourished, as confirmed by a doctor. Due to the severity of her condition, the child was admitted to the hospital for further evaluation.”
Weber was taken to Mecklenburg County Jail and is being held on a $25,000 bond.
Local news outlet WSOC spoke with the homeowner where Weber lived, who confirmed she was the mother of the malnourished child.
Neighbor Jacqueline Wade recalled seeing three police cars and an ambulance outside the home. “It’s really saddening,” she said. “You can be so close to someone and not realize the extent of their suffering.”
Weber is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. She currently has no attorney listed, and the warrant did not specify what happened to the child after her hospitalization.
