Prosecutors allege the abuse happened between 2016 and 2020, during which time the boy was around 11 to 15 years old. They also say the boy lived with Caron during this period.
In 2019, when the boy was just 13 years old, Caron, who was then 28, gave birth to his child, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by WPVI.
The crime came to light in December 2024, when the victim’s father saw a photo of the now 5-year-old child, noticed a resemblance, and posted about it on Facebook.
Caron reportedly became close to the victim’s family while she was his 5th-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School No. 2. The victim and his siblings began staying at Caron’s home a few nights a week and eventually moved in full-time from 2016 to 2020.
The victim’s sister told investigators that her brother started sleeping in Caron’s bed when he was 11. She said that while she and her siblings slept in a shared room upstairs, her brother would often be in Caron’s bed by morning. She also reported that Caron would lock herself in the bathroom with the boy while he was showering.
After the father’s Facebook post, the victim, who is now almost 20, reportedly admitted in a text to his sister that he is the father of the child but asked her to keep it a secret. The affidavit states that Caron and the victim had regular contact until the father’s discovery.
Caron was arrested on Wednesday, and police searched her home. She is being held in the Cape May Correctional Center without bail. Her attorney has not commented on the case.
Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland released a statement condemning the alleged abuse, saying, “Teachers hold a position of great trust, and the allegations in this case represent a deeply troubling breach of that trust.
We will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and to support the victim and their family throughout this process.”
The school district is cooperating with the investigation. According to KYW, Caron is currently on paid administrative leave.
