Authorities have charged 21-year-old Logan Diaz-Lopardo with first-degree manslaughter and 20-year-old Abbigale Whipple with conspiracy to commit first-degree manslaughter.
Details Leading Up to the Incident
Police reports suggest the incident stemmed from a conflict involving Gangell and Whipple, who were previously in a relationship. According to authorities, the pair argued the day before Gangell’s death, leading him to block Whipple’s number.
Whipple reportedly sought help from her friend, Diaz-Lopardo, who allegedly disliked Gangell. Moments before Gangell was hit by the car, Whipple reportedly sent a text to him saying, “I warned you,” according to the news outlets.
Police also allege that Diaz-Lopardo spoke with Gangell over the phone before the crash. According to NBC, Diaz-Lopardo taunted Gangell, saying, “Oh you mad cause I got ya girl now?” Gangell reportedly replied, “Pull up, I got something for you.”
Police Findings
State police believe the crash was not an accident. “It became apparent very quickly that this was no accident, and it was actually an intentional act,” said state police Sgt. Luke Davis, according to NBC.
When Diaz-Lopardo allegedly drove the car into Gangell, the victim was thrown 70 feet, WFSB and NBC reported.
Current Status of the Case
It is unclear if Diaz-Lopardo or Whipple have entered pleas at this time. Both face serious charges in connection with Gangell’s death.
