A 25-year-old man from Illinois will spend 60 years in prison for killing his girlfriend, who was almost eight months pregnant. He cut off her head and threw it in a dumpster.
A judge sentenced Deundrea S. Holloway to 60 years in prison for the 2022 murder of 22-year-old Liese A. Dodd and her unborn child... Continue reading here ▶
Holloway had previously admitted he was guilty of murder, killing an unborn child, and hiding a body. He received 30 years for the murder, 20 years for killing the unborn child, and 10 years for hiding the body. These sentences will be served one after the other, totaling 60 years.
The case was delayed for a while because a court decided Holloway was mentally unfit to go to trial and sent him to a mental health facility for treatment.

There was also a legal issue where the Illinois Supreme Court ruled that killing a mother and her unborn child counts as one murder, not two, which affected whether Holloway could receive a life sentence.
The local prosecutor said that this guilty verdict will hopefully bring some peace to Liese’s family and help them begin to heal. He also said this case has been difficult for everyone involved and that he feels deeply for Liese’s family.
Police found Liese Dodd’s body on June 9, 2022, after her mother went to check on her and found her body without her head. Her head was later found in a dumpster outside her apartment building.
The former police chief described the crime as “absolutely terrible” and “beyond reprehensible.” He said that Holloway and Dodd had been in an on-again, off-again relationship for about two years before the murder.
He also said that Liese was “savagely, savagely killed” and that she and her family were planning a baby shower for the end of June.
Holloway must serve at least 52 years of his 60-year sentence before he can be considered for release.
