A man named Raymond Moody, who is in prison for raping and murdering 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel in Myrtle Beach over 15 years ago, told the FBI that his girlfriend, Angel Vause, helped him kidnap her and watched the murder.
Moody, now 64, was sentenced to life in prison in 2022 for Brittanee’s murder. Vause, 57, pleaded guilty in September to lying to the FBI during the investigation... Continue reading here ▶
Moody told the FBI that he and Vause were driving around Myrtle Beach looking for someone to kidnap on April 25, 2009, when they saw Brittanee walking alone. Brittanee was walking to another hotel to return some borrowed clothes.
Moody said they were “hunting” for a victim and that he thought Brittanee was “the one.”

He said Vause got out of the car to talk to Brittanee, thinking she would trust them because Vause was a woman. They pretended to be tourists and offered her a ride.
Once Brittanee was in the car, Moody, who was driving, pretended to be lost. He then attacked her, handcuffed her, and told her he was kidnapping her and would demand $5,000 in ransom. Vause then drove them to a tent they had set up by a river.
Moody left Brittanee with Vause and went to his apartment to get what was described as “sex toys.” When he returned, he raped, sodomized, and strangled Brittanee. He also stabbed her to make sure she was dead.
Moody said Vause was in the tent watching the entire time but did not participate in the rape or murder. He then buried Brittanee’s body in a shallow grave.
Moody also told the FBI that Vause was attracted to his criminal past. He had previously been in prison for kidnapping and raping a 9-year-old girl. They had even exchanged text messages about “hunting” together.
Brittanee’s case was unsolved for years. The FBI eventually determined she was dead in 2016. Moody then turned himself in and confessed to everything.
Brittanee’s body was identified using dental records. Previous theories about her being gang-raped and fed to alligators were proven false.
After Moody’s conviction, the FBI focused on Vause. They accused her of lying to them during an interview in May 2022. They said she lied about where she was when Brittanee was being attacked, about taking Brittanee’s phone, and about Brittanee willingly going with them to use drugs.
Prosecutors want Vause to be sentenced to 24 years in prison, which is the maximum sentence. Her sentencing date has not yet been set.
