On the way, he stopped at a gas station and asked Funez-Martinez for more money for gas. This led to a small argument.
When they got back to Funez-Martinez’s house, Pulido-Castro’s car was overheating, so he stayed outside while the others went inside. Funez-Martinez went inside, got a large kitchen knife, and came back out.
He then repeatedly stabbed Pulido-Castro, who tried to run away but was chased and continued to be stabbed. Funez-Martinez stabbed him 59 times and knocked out some of his teeth. He then dragged the body to the car trunk.
Funez-Martinez ran away but was quickly found by police because witnesses had seen him. He had cuts on his hands covered in the victim’s blood. He later confessed to the murder.
The prosecutor described the murder as extremely brutal, saying it was the worst she had ever seen. She emphasized that Pulido-Castro was killed over a small amount of money that he was owed for doing his job. She said it was a cruel and undeserved death.
