Police video shows an Indiana dad explaining he was cleaning his house for his wife when he made a horrifying discovery: his baby son had been severely attacked by rats.

While his wife was out, he and his sister-in-law found the baby with terrible injuries. Schonabaum said his sister-in-law noticed the baby’s fingers first.
As reported earlier, investigators found the baby missing flesh from the fingers and thumb of his right hand, with bone showing on all five fingertips.

He also had over 50 bites on his forehead, cheek, and nose, plus more bites on his arms, legs, feet, and toes.
Schonabaum was convicted of three counts of child neglect (one for the baby and two for his other children) and is serving a 16-year prison sentence.
The mother, Angel Schonabaum, admitted to one count of neglect, was given credit for a year already served, and received three years of probation.
In the video, David Schonabaum said rats were the first thing he thought of to explain the bites: “Right away, I thought it was the rats because that’s the only thing that could have been in that room all night.”
He admitted they had a serious rat problem and claimed he hired Terminex to deal with it.
He insisted no one else in the house had ever been bitten by rats.
