Police investigated and found that Mr. Trent was shot while trying to stop the robbers. On January 23rd, they arrested three teenage boys: two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old. The 16-year-old and one of the 15-year-olds are charged with murder and robbery. The other 15-year-old was arrested for a separate robbery that happened on January 1st.
Police also believe the 16-year-old was involved in four other robberies in the area during the first two weeks of January. A police sergeant said that several crimes in the area after the shooting were connected, which led to the arrests. He also said that it’s unusual for young people to commit these types of crimes and that it’s worrying that they have access to guns.
The three boys are in a juvenile detention center. The district attorney will decide if the two teens charged with murder will be tried as adults.
Mr. Trent’s family has started a fundraising page to help his son and his son’s mother. They describe him as a warm, kind, and joyful man who will be deeply missed.
