Because Mrs. Anthony was deaf, she didn’t hear the neighbor’s dogs approaching, according to a fundraising page set up for her.
Her husband (who is 73) was also attacked while trying to save her. He was found by police trying to fight off the dogs with a broom, after he had reportedly shot at them. He survived but was bitten on his arms and legs. Police used pepper spray to get the dogs away.

Mrs. Anthony is remembered as a kind and generous woman who worked as a school custodian. Her family said she made everyone feel valued and loved, and that she always made sure no one went hungry. They are devastated by her violent death in her own backyard, a place where she should have felt safe.
The dogs were found in their owner’s house in the neighborhood. The owner is cooperating with the police investigation.
Mrs. Anthony’s daughter wants the dog’s owner to be charged and the dogs to be put down. As of now, police have not filed any charges against the owner, and it’s unclear if the dogs will be euthanized.
