Woman ran for her life, desperately knocking on doors, pleading for help. But her estranged husband was right behind her—with a gun and their 4-year-old daughter in tow.
A man accused of killing his estranged wife, her father and a neighbor took along his 4-year-old daughter as he carried out the rampage, police allege.
Nathan Gingles, 43, allegedly went on a shooting spree across two Tamarac, Fla., homes over the weekend, killing his estranged wife, Mary Gingles, 34, her father, David Ponzer, 64, and the wife’s neighbor, Andrew Ferrin, 36... Continue reading here ▶
Nathan is also accused of briefly abducting the daughter he shared with Mary, 4-year-old Seraphine Gingles, before she was rescued in nearby North Lauderdale later the same day, per the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Nathan, who was present when she was rescued, was arrested on several charges.
As the investigation continues, chilling details are coming to light, revealing what police say unfolded early in the morning on Sunday, Feb. 16.
Broward County police responding to a report of a shooting at around 6 a.m. found Ponzer fatally shot in his back patio, per a complaint affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
According to security camera footage from the area,Mary was seen running door to door in the neighborhood, pleading for help.
One of the neighbors, Adolfo Lang, later told police that he heard a loud banging on his door and saw Mary outside knocking “frantically” — and soon encountered a haunting scene.
Lang said he saw the suspect, later identified as Nathan, walk up his driveway with 4-year-old Seraphine behind him, barefoot, as the suspect pursued Mary, per the affidavit. Upon realizing Nathan was behind her, Mary soon fled the scene, the security footage shows.
Another security camera clip, taken from near Ferrin’s home, showed Mary running inside, chased by the suspect carrying a firearm, police said in the affidavit. Police added, “The suspect and the child followed Mary into the residence.”
It was inside this residence where Mary and Ferrin would later be found fatally shot, say police.
Police were able to track Nathan down after discovering a restraining order against him placed in the kitchen of Ponzer’s home.
Nathan Gingles.
Nathan has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, as well as kidnapping, child abuse and burglary, per Broward County online records reviewed by PEOPLE.
Court records did not indicate attorney or plea information. PEOPLE has reached out to an attorney listed for him in a previous domestic violence case, also involving Mary, but did not hear back. One of the domestic violence cases was dismissed. Another is still active, and a judge had granted an extension of a restraining order against Nathan in January.
