The tragic incident happened on July 22, 2021, when police responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive man at a home in Nekoosa, about 120 miles west of Green Bay.
When officers arrived, Jason met them at the door and led them to his father, who was lying on the floor. On the way, he pointed to a red stain on the wall, casually saying, “That’s chili, I’m sorry.”
Paramedics attempted CPR, but it was too late. Thomas had severe injuries to his head, face, and neck, including deep cuts and bruises. A small, bleeding hole was also found behind his right ear, and blood pooled beneath his body.
During questioning, Jason gave inconsistent statements about what happened. He first said he didn’t know why his father wasn’t wearing a shirt, then admitted he may have ripped it off but didn’t remember. He also claimed he had been asleep for most of the day, despite phone activity proving otherwise.
Jason brought up his father’s drinking, saying he often passed out around the house. However, his sister told police that Jason also drank and became easily angered when he did. She had visited the home that evening and described Jason as “crabby.”
Her son, who was there that day, told police he heard Jason and his grandfather arguing. He recalled his uncle yelling about his father having an accident on the couch, followed by his grandfather saying “owie” and the sound of slapping.
Despite Jason claiming he performed CPR for 30 minutes, the 911 call suggested otherwise—his voice was calm, with no signs of exhaustion.
Authorities believe Jason killed his father by repeatedly striking him in the head. He is currently being held in the Wood County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.
