Police used security camera footage to identify a suspect, Daniel Josué Zambrano Cáceres. The footage showed a man approaching Laura the night she disappeared. Cáceres says he is innocent.
Reports say that Cáceres approached Laura, put her in his car, and drove to an area outside of town.
After finding and arresting Cáceres, police found Laura’s body on Tuesday, January 21st. Soldiers discovered her body near the Minero River, about 45 miles from Chiquinquirá. The mayor and medical examiners confirmed it was her.
Investigators found evidence, including bodily fluids, in Cáceres’ car, which they are examining.
Cáceres has been charged with making someone disappear against their will. Authorities say he will likely face more charges. Even though he reportedly confessed during questioning, he later told a judge he was not guilty.
The investigation is still ongoing.
