The couple’s 9-year-old son gave very emotional testimony about what he saw. After three hours of thinking it over, the jury decided Wheeler was guilty of first-degree murder.
Important evidence included:
- A 911 call Jordan Wheeler made during the fight.
- A video Jordan Wheeler recorded as she went to Wheeler’s house to pick up their children.
- Documents about their child custody agreement.
The couple was getting a divorce. On the night of the murder, Jordan Wheeler went to Wheeler’s house after one of her children called her about their father’s behavior.
She recorded the confrontation on her way there. Wheeler was very angry and yelled at her.
While they were arguing in the kitchen, Jordan Wheeler called 911. She told the operator there were guns in the house. Wheeler then got a gun and shot her five times in the head while she was still on the phone with 911. He can be heard on the call saying he killed her.
Two of their younger children, ages 7 and 8, ran to their mother’s car just before the shooting. The older boy said he heard the gunshots and saw flashes of light inside the house.
Police arrested Wheeler at the scene. He could spend the rest of his life in prison without parole. He will be sentenced on February 26.
