A nurse is recovering after being stabbed by a man in the emergency department where she worked.

The Greater Manchester Police reported that a 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on Saturday, January 11, on suspicion of attempted murder.
The nurse, who is in her 50s, suffered serious injuries that are believed to be life-changing. She is still in the hospital receiving treatment.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters called the incident serious and expressed support for the nurse’s family and colleagues.
Heather Caudle, the chief nursing officer at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, described the attack as “distressing and frightening” and said the organization is providing support to the nurse and her family, as well as staff and patients affected by the incident.
Amanda Pritchard, Chief Executive of NHS England, emphasized that healthcare workers should be able to work safely without fear of harm. She thanked those who responded quickly to help after the assault.
Local Member of Parliament Jim McMahon called the attack “senseless” and shared his support for the nurse and her family, wishing her a full recovery.
Despite the attack, the hospital remains open, and police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
