The tragic incident happened around 11 a.m. Saturday at Lenox and McDuff Avenues. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic. Markin Barnes, who owns a nearby barbershop, said he heard a woman screaming and ran outside, only to see the horrifying aftermath.
“The kid was bleeding,” Barnes said. “We immediately asked if she needed help.” As a father, he said it was heartbreaking to witness. “It’s rough, you know. It’s definitely going to be a traumatic situation.”
Authorities are still investigating, and details remain unclear. Police have not said whether Golden hit the child on purpose or by accident. The infant’s gender has also not been revealed.
“We, with our partners at the State Attorney’s Office, will stop at nothing to get justice for the baby,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Golden remains in the Duval County Jail without bond. It is not known if he has a lawyer.
