However, the medical examiner determined that her injuries could not have been caused by a fall onto a knife. Collin was later charged with murder and kidnapping, though he has pleaded not guilty.
Collin had been living with his mother in Florida after the 2023 shooting death of his father. Police initially arrested him in connection to his father’s death, but evidence showed it was an act of self-defense, and Collin was not charged.
The affidavit claims there was a history of heated arguments between Collin and Catherine, and he had been charged with domestic battery against her several months before her death.
In bodycam footage published by Fox 4, Collin is heard speaking to his grandmother after being arrested in November 2023. He said, “I’m not a psychopath.
I’m not this murderer. I’m just trying to peacefully leave or peacefully coexist.” He claimed his mother hit him when he wouldn’t stop talking. His grandmother disputed this claim.
The affidavit also mentions that about a year before his mother’s death, Collin told a police officer he didn’t feel safe at home and said he might either “kill myself or my mom.”
