Hackett was still at the scene when police arrived and was immediately arrested. He was formally charged with his sister’s murder on Wednesday.
Court documents give more details about what allegedly happened.
Martinez arrived at her mother and Hackett’s home around 7:26 p.m., and she and Hackett started arguing. He took her to the front door, pushed her outside, and locked it.
This made Martinez angry, and she started banging on the door, demanding to be let back in. Hackett yelled back at her through the door. Suddenly, the door swung open, and Martinez was standing in the doorway.
That’s when Hackett allegedly shot her in the face. After she fell to the ground, he allegedly shot her two more times.
Hackett’s mother told police that she and her daughter had been cleaning Martinez’s home and drinking earlier that day. The mother then invited Martinez to her home, where Hackett was also present.
The mother told police that Hackett and Martinez often argued because Martinez used drugs. She also said that Hackett “does not approve of her lifestyle or how she raises her children.”
Right after the shooting, Hackett reportedly called 911, telling the dispatcher that he had just shot his sister, where he had put the gun, and that it was unloaded.
His mother also said that after shooting Martinez, Hackett asked her for a hug, saying, “Give me a hug, because I am going to jail.”
Hackett is being held on a $750,000 cash bond. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on January 30th.
