A Texas couple is facing serious charges after their pit bull reportedly mauled and killed a 2-year-old girl they were supposed to be babysitting. Instead of watching the children themselves, Deidre Wheeler and Lacharles Ramsey left the 11-year-old in charge while they went out.
On December 29, Wichita Falls police responded to a 911 call about a pit bull attacking a child. When they arrived, the girl was badly injured and unresponsive. Despite paramedics’ efforts to save her, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

After investigating the tragic events, police discovered that Wheeler, who has six children of her own, and Ramsey had agreed to babysit two children, aged 2 and 8 months. However, instead of watching them, they left their older children to supervise.
When Wheeler returned home and took her older kids to an event, they left the 11-year-old in charge. During that time, the pit bull escaped its kennel and attacked the children, biting the 8-month-old before turning on the 2-year-old.
By the time Wheeler and Ramsey returned home, the child was seriously injured. They rushed to take her to the hospital, but emergency responders were already on the way. Investigators also found that the dog had bitten another child about a year earlier and had a history of aggression.
Wheeler and Ramsey are facing charges of child endangerment and injury to a child, as they failed to properly supervise the children despite knowing about the dog’s dangerous behavior.
Wheeler is being held on a $450,000 bond, while Ramsey’s bond is set at $300,000. Authorities have also euthanized the dog, and the victim’s name has not been released.
