She died in Montblanc, a village in southwest France. She had lost a lot of weight and muscle and developed a serious blood infection (septicemia) after being locked in a storage room and not given food for weeks.
Pissarra, 54, claimed her daughter had eating problems and choked on some food before she died.
In court, Pissarra admitted to abusing her daughter because she reminded her of her father. She called herself a “monstrous mother.”
She was charged with torturing and mistreating her daughter and had been in jail since May 2021.
Her former partner, Jean-Michel Cros, was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for his part in Amandine’s suffering.
The court heard that Amandine had been abused by her mother for ten years. She was hit, kicked, beaten with brooms, had her hair pulled, and was insulted and pushed around.
Investigators said that Amandine was violently abused by her mother to cause her pain and humiliation. She was deprived of food, given “writing punishments,” and locked in a storage room that was monitored by cameras.
A mental health evaluation showed that Pissarra was angry and violent and wanted to take out her hatred for Amandine’s father on her daughter.
In her final statement in court, Pissarra apologized to her children.
