A Texas woman has been arrested for allegedly abusing a 7-year-old girl in her care by tying her up with zip ties, duct-taping her mouth shut, and locking her in a dog cage near their Christmas tree for hours. Rose Marie Anderson, 55, is facing felony charges of unlawful restraint and injury to a child.
The incident reportedly happened on December 13 at Anderson’s apartment in Houston. According to court documents, Anderson restrained the child “by force,” causing significant harm.
Prosecutors say she zip-tied the girl, taped her mouth shut, and locked her in the cage without food, water, or access to a bathroom, leaving her to urinate on herself.
They also claim Anderson kicked the child while she was in the cage as punishment for her behavior at school.
The child has since been removed from the home and placed in foster care, where she is safe and receiving care, according to the Texas Department of Family Services.
Anderson was released on a $5,000 bond and is prohibited from contacting the victim or engaging in harmful behavior. She is set to appear in court on January 6, 2025.
