On the same day, deputies in Calhoun County responded to a report of a truck on fire. A witness told police they saw a woman, later identified as Faith Paige Goynes, walking away from the burning vehicle. Not long after, deputies found Goynes paddling a kayak near the scene. She reportedly had severe burns and was carrying Calavera’s ID. Investigators confirmed the truck belonged to Calavera.
According to the arrest affidavit, Goynes confessed to shooting Calavera and burning his truck. The two were in a common-law marriage, according to KSAT. Goynes is now facing charges of murder and arson causing serious injury or death.
It’s unclear if Goynes has hired a lawyer or entered a plea. This case began when Calavera’s father asked Calhoun County officials for help finding his son. After the welfare check, Bexar County deputies discovered Calavera’s body hidden in his home.
