Despite the ruling, the future of TikTok in the U.S. remains uncertain. President Joe Biden has stated he will not enforce the ban during his final day in office, leaving the decision to incoming President Donald Trump.
President-elect Trump has indicated a desire to find a political solution to keep the app available, but his exact plans are unclear.
If the ban is enforced, TikTok would be removed from U.S. app stores, preventing new downloads and updates. While existing users could continue using the app for a time, the lack of updates would eventually render it unusable.
TikTok has argued that the ban violates free speech rights, labeling the concerns as speculative. However, the court held firm that the law was a necessary move to safeguard U.S. citizens’ data.
