Former President Donald Trump has taken to his Truth Social platform to express his frustration over the ongoing omnibus spending deal, insisting that no deal should move forward without addressing the looming debt ceiling crisis.

At the time, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy struck a deal with the Biden administration, pushing for cuts to social programs in exchange for the extension. However, not all Republicans were on board with raising the debt limit.
Now, Trump says Democrats have set a “trap” with the timing of the debt ceiling, which could lead to a default if not addressed. On Truth Social, he wrote, “Can anyone imagine passing this deal without either terminating or extending the debt ceiling guillotine coming up in June? This is a nasty TRAP set by the Radical Left Democrats!”
Trump didn’t stop there. He called out Republicans who previously agreed to the debt ceiling extension, accusing them of “political malpractice.” He also criticized other parts of the spending deal, such as funding for the Global Engagement Center and protections for the January 6th Committee, calling these provisions harmful to Republicans.
In typical Trump fashion, he added, “This is not a good time for Congress to be asking for pay raises. Hopefully, you’ll be entitled to such an increase in the near future when we ‘MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!’”
Adding fuel to the fire, billionaire Elon Musk, a Trump ally, reportedly criticized the spending deal and even threatened to back primary challenges against Republicans who vote for it. This has created even more tension within the GOP as they scramble to finalize the agreement.
In summary, Trump is making it clear that he’s ready to fight against the current spending deal unless the debt ceiling is addressed. With allies like Musk joining the debate, the outcome of these negotiations is far from certain. It’s shaping up to be a political showdown with plenty of drama ahead.
