The video reportedly shows the boy spitting on Perkins while she was taking care of another child. Perkins then immediately slapped the boy in the face hard enough to make him spin around and hit a cabinet.
In the video, Perkins can be heard saying she hit him because he spit on her face. She also said other things like “hell no” and that she “doesn’t do that.” After the slap, she is seen pulling the boy out of the room by his shirt.
The local prosecutor said that video evidence is very strong and that his job is to protect people, especially children.
A detective interviewed Perkins, who said she reacted without thinking when the boy spit on her. She claimed she “didn’t hit him bad” and that it was just a “little small tap.”
She also said the boy was “acting up” by throwing toys and that he spit on her when she asked him to help clean up.
She even said that the boy spitting on her was also a form of battery. The detective reminded her that the boy was only two years old. Perkins repeated that she reacted instinctively and that the boy didn’t even cry.
The daycare center reported the incident to two state agencies. They also released a statement saying they fired Perkins immediately and that state authorities investigated and confirmed they handled the situation correctly.
The police investigation is still ongoing. Perkins has not been arrested yet.
