An Arizona man known for his kind heart was found dead on Christmas Eve, miles from his home, after being lured away by a stranger who claimed to have car trouble.
Paul Clifford, 53, was discovered on a rugged dirt road in Pima County, near Tucson, after leaving home to help someone in need.
According to his daughter, Sabrina Vining, Clifford had taken his truck late Tuesday night to assist someone who said their car wouldn’t start.
When he didn’t return, his family became worried and contacted law enforcement. Police believe Clifford was murdered sometime after 11:30 p.m., but they haven’t revealed how he was killed.
Police tracked Clifford’s truck to Redington Pass, where his body was found near a burning vehicle. Authorities suspect the incident may be linked to a stolen car, but they haven’t confirmed whether the burning vehicle was Clifford’s truck.
Clifford was remembered by his family as a “gentle giant” who loved helping others, with his daughter describing him as someone who “had a huge, caring heart.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. So far, no suspects or motives have been identified.
