But not everyone in his own party is thrilled about the idea.
According to CNN’s Manu Raju, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was quick to push back, saying there’s no way he’ll support eliminating the debt ceiling. “They’re trying, but I don’t think they’ll get there,” Paul said before Trump revealed his supposed success in getting the demand included. “Getting rid of the debt ceiling seems to be fiscally irresponsible,” he added.
Paul also predicted that many other Republicans in the Senate feel the same way. He believes as many as 30 GOP senators would vote against eliminating the debt ceiling altogether.
Things have been a mess on Capitol Hill this week. Just days before the government could run out of money, Trump and Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), shot down a bipartisan plan to keep things running. Now, Republicans are scrambling to come up with something that can get enough support in the House.
With time running out and divisions in his party growing, Trump’s bold move to tackle the debt ceiling is creating more questions than answers. Will his plan succeed, or will it add to the chaos?
