After a tough defeat to President-elect Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris is facing questions about what’s next for her political career.
Reports from CNN and The Washington Post say Harris hasn’t ruled out running for president again. At the same time, she’s also considering a possible bid for California governor in the next four years... Continue reading here ▶
For now, Harris has been telling her supporters things like, “You haven’t seen the last of me” and “I’m not going quietly into the night.” However, behind closed doors, it seems she’s still trying to figure out her next move.

On Monday, MSNBC columnist Zeeshan Aleem shared his thoughts, and he wasn’t very optimistic about Harris’s chances. He said Harris isn’t the kind of candidate the Democratic Party needs right now.
According to Aleem, the current political era is all about populism — where candidates win by connecting with working-class people and focusing on economic issues. He believes Harris struggles to do this.
While Harris is smart and polished in front of the camera, Aleem pointed out some weaknesses:
- During her campaign, her policy ideas didn’t come across clearly. In fact, her policy page wasn’t even ready until just a few days before a major debate.
- She’s also linked to two major issues that hurt the current administration: rising inflation and illegal immigration. Both are big topics for voters, and Aleem says Harris’s ties to these problems make it harder for her to win support.
The Challenge for Democrats
Aleem’s comments highlight a bigger problem for the Democratic Party. If they want to win back voters, especially working-class Americans, they need a leader who can “authentically” talk about economic issues and connect with ordinary people. Aleem doesn’t think Harris is that person.
In his words, she’s “exactly the wrong kind of person to resurface” as the party tries to figure out its identity.
Could She Run for California Governor Instead?
Some reports suggest Harris might run for governor of California in the future. Since California is her home state and heavily Democratic, it could give her a chance to rebuild her political career.
Right now, though, Harris seems to be at a crossroads. She’s not saying much publicly about her next steps, and the speculation continues. Whether she runs for president again or focuses on California, it’s clear she’ll have to work hard to regain support and convince voters she’s the right choice.
For now, all eyes are on Harris as she decides her next move. Will she take another shot at the presidency, or will she look closer to home? Time will tell.
