Anthony Lopez, 39, is accused of killing his 53-year-old sister, Lisa Rosenzweig, at her home in Rock Hill, South Carolina, which is near the North Carolina border.
Police found Rosenzweig dead in her house on November 9, 2024, after someone called to check on her.
Lopez was named as a suspect about a month later, on December 6th. He was arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, on the same day and brought back to South Carolina on Thursday.
In court on Friday, Lopez spoke to reporters, saying, “Follow God’s law and man’s law,” while looking at the camera and nodding.
He has refused a lawyer and will represent himself in court. If he’s found guilty, he could face the death penalty.
Police say Rosenzweig was hit in the head.
A local worker who had access to Rosenzweig’s house helped police get inside. Neighbors said they were shocked by the violent crime.
One neighbor said she hoped it was an accident and not someone intentionally hurting Rosenzweig, saying she didn’t deserve it.
Lopez will not be released on bail before his trial. He is currently in jail at the York County Detention Center.
