The man, identified as Andrew Ashurst, is accused of starting an argument with the woman, which quickly turned violent. He allegedly pushed her into a toilet, causing her to hit her head, struck her in the stomach, dragged her by her hair through the house, and hit her in the face with a cell phone.
During the attack, the woman went into labor, but Ashurst allegedly refused to let her call for help. When officers arrived, they found her with bruises on her back, arms, face, and forehead.
It’s unclear how Ashurst and the victim know each other. District Attorney Molly Metzgar called the allegations “unfathomable,” adding, “As a mother, I understand the vulnerability of a woman and her unborn child, and I am appalled that anyone would endanger their lives.”
Ashurst is now facing charges including aggravated assault of an unborn child, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, simple assault, and harassment. He is being held on $50,000 bail. Court records do not yet indicate whether he has a lawyer or has entered a plea.
