A Texas man with his ex-girlfriend’s name tattooed on his chest is accused of stabbing her to death in a late-night domestic violence attack, just one day before her birthday, according to police and family.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a domestic violence call around 3:30 a.m.
They saw Chavez leaving the scene in a gray 2024 Chevrolet pickup truck. Inside the home, deputies found Davila severely stabbed. She was rushed to a local hospital but died from her injuries.
Davila’s family said she and Chavez had a troubled relationship, which ended before her death due to issues of domestic violence. Despite the abuse, they said Davila sometimes returned to Chavez, trying to make the relationship work.
In a text message shared with the local Univision affiliate, Davila expressed her struggles to leave Chavez, saying, “It’s so hard for me to walk away, and I don’t know why… I just ask for patience with me.”
Police have not released an official motive but confirmed that the murder stemmed from a domestic violence incident.
“This tragedy highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence in our community,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said after Chavez’s arrest on January 5.
Chavez was arrested in Reeves County, about 200 miles away, and brought back to El Paso by the sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
A GoFundMe campaign created for Davila’s family described her as a beautiful person with a kind heart who was taken too soon. The fundraiser also criticized Chavez for taking away Davila’s chance to achieve her dreams.
