A family in South Carolina is asking for help to care for a 5-year-old boy whose parents and relatives were killed in a tragic shooting two days after Christmas.
The boy’s father, Darius Seay, 44, shot and killed his estranged wife, Adriene Seay (known as Kim), along with the boy’s uncle Andrew and grandfather John, on Friday, Dec. 27... Continue reading here ▶
The incident happened while the family was putting together toys for the boy, according to news reports.
Police say Darius entered the apartment armed and opened fire. He had been arrested the night before for assault and battery but was released on a $10,000 bond.
After the shooting, Darius took his son to another home. When police arrived, Darius handed over the boy and then fatally shot himself with a rifle.
Kim’s family expressed their heartbreak in a statement, saying they are committed to honoring Kim, John, and Andrew’s memories by caring for the boy.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support the boy and his new guardians, Kim’s brother David Childs and his wife Kaeley, who have taken him into their home.
The fundraiser has raised nearly $42,000 as of Jan. 3 to help with the family’s financial and emotional needs.
The couple’s marriage had a history of conflict. Darius and Kim married in 2015 but filed for divorce in March 2024 after Darius accused Kim of threatening him and physical violence.
Custody of the child was supposed to be shared, with Kim scheduled to care for him over the Christmas holidays.
