An Ohio man is accused of admitting to shaking and slamming a 1-year-old baby’s head on the floor when she wouldn’t stop crying, causing injuries that led to her death weeks later.
Michael Mayor, 34, was arrested on December 11 for allegedly assaulting the baby girl on December 5. The child suffered a skull fracture and other severe injuries. According to police, Mayor admitted to the violent act.
Initially charged with six felonies, including child endangerment and felonious assault, Mayor now faces further scrutiny after the baby’s death on December 20, which court documents say was caused by the injuries he inflicted.
The incident happened while Mayor’s wife, who babysits children in the Dayton area, was watching the girl. She noticed the baby was unresponsive and pale, with bruises on her head. The baby was rushed to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where doctors found a skull fracture and other severe head injuries caused by a significant impact.
Mayor allegedly admitted to police that while he was alone with the baby, he shook her when she started crying and slammed her head on the floor multiple times until she stopped. He later claimed he thought she had fallen asleep and left her on the floor. Mayor remains in custody on a $1 million bond, with his next court hearing scheduled for January 2.
