A refugee family from Myanmar, who fled to the United States to escape violence, was tragically killed in a murder-suicide last week in Utah.
Police say 42-year-old Dae Reh shot and killed his wife, Bu Meh, 38, and three of their children—Kristina Ree, 8, Boe Reh, 11, and Nyay Meh, 2—before taking his own life inside their home in West Valley City, near Salt Lake City.
A fourth child, 17-year-old Sha Reh, was critically injured but survived after being shot in the head.
Police discovered the tragic scene after a relative, concerned about not hearing from Bu Meh, went to the home and found Sha Reh wounded in the garage.
The rest of the family members were found inside the house. Relatives described Sha Reh as a “hero” and said he faces a long and challenging recovery.
The family had come to the U.S. over a decade ago to escape ethnic cleansing in Myanmar, only for this tragedy to unfold in their new home.
