East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore explained to WAFB, “This particular prisoner was transported from East Carroll along with a group of Department of Corrections inmates who had apparently finished their time and were being taken to a bus stop.” Authorities have not shared details about how this mistake happened.
Davis was originally arrested in January 2023. Police say he is accused of fatally shooting 37-year-old Deandre Duncan after an argument in December 2022. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WAFB that Davis has now been recaptured.
WBRZ reported that Davis’ family didn’t know he had been released until police arrived at their home searching for him. A family member told the station, “Why did y’all let him out in the first place? You’re telling us he wasn’t supposed to be released, but y’all made a big mistake.”
At this time, it’s unclear if Davis has a lawyer or if he has entered a plea to the murder charge.
