“On Monday evening, December 23rd, 2024, Brian Campbell came to the Lumberton Police Department and turned himself in,” a police spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE on Tuesday, Dec. 24.
Campbell was arrested and is being held at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 bond. He faces charges of accessory after the fact, while Burden is charged with first-degree murder, discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear, and going armed to the terror of the public.
The Shooting: A Targeted Incident Gone Wrong
The fatal shooting took place on Friday, Dec. 20, at the Lumberton Super Walmart around 3:45 p.m. Police received reports of gunfire near the Woodforest Bank inside the store.
When officers arrived, they found Olson suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite bystanders’ efforts to assist her, Olson succumbed to her injuries after being transported to UNC Health Southeastern.
Authorities believe the shooting was an isolated incident, stating the suspects appeared to target two individuals they knew, who were standing near the bank. Olson, however, was not the intended victim, according to WMBF News.
The Hunt for Burden
While Campbell has surrendered, Burden remains at large. Police are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Lumberton Police Department at 910-671-3845.
