Early on December 31, Herriman Police responded to a call from Saratoga Springs Police about a DUI investigation where a woman’s body was discovered inside a car.
The car was parked at a 7-Eleven on South Redwood Road in Bluffdale, Utah, about 25 miles from Salt Lake City.
When officers arrived, they found the woman in the back of the car with severe injuries consistent with homicide.
Johnson, who was driving the car, was detained and later taken to the Saratoga Springs Police Department for questioning. During an interview, Johnson reportedly admitted to causing some of the victim’s injuries.
Police documents state that Johnson described his relationship with the victim as an intimate one, saying they lived together in Herriman. He mentioned they had argued about ending their relationship.
When officers asked about her injuries, he admitted there was physical trauma but didn’t provide more details. He also said he had put her into the car.
The victim was identified as Summer Tatiana Roney. Her family, through their attorney, released a statement expressing their heartbreak over her tragic death.
They described Summer as a kind, vibrant, and loving person who brought joy to everyone she met. They asked for privacy while grieving her loss.
Johnson appeared in court on Thursday, where the judge found strong evidence to support the murder charge. He was ordered to be held without bond in Salt Lake County Jail.
Authorities requested a higher-than-usual bond due to Johnson’s defiant behavior and criminal history, which includes convictions for theft, burglary, aggravated robbery, and DUI.
