Gomes Moreira ran away from the scene in a gold 2002 Saturn. Police caught him two days later in Manatee County.
Jail records show that Gomes Moreira hasn’t been brought back to Broward County yet, but he will be charged with murder, arson (setting the fire), and animal cruelty.
De Souza had four children and three grandchildren. Her family started an online fundraiser (GoFundMe) to help with expenses.
The fundraiser says that de Souza was always smiling, had kind words for everyone, and was always ready to help. It says she was a loving, faithful, and dedicated to her family and friends. The fundraiser had raised over $10,000 by January 21st, the day of her funeral.
Her daughter, Kimberly Silva, told a local news station, “She didn’t deserve this. Her life was just going to church and coming home being with her children.”
