A man named Jason Arrington was pulled over for running a red light. He told the officer, Shaun Lowry, that he had a gun with him. This is legal in Florida if you have a permit, and it sounds like Arrington might have had one.
Officer Lowry asked Mr. Arrington to get out of the car for everyone’s safety. Another officer, Mindy Cardwell, tried to take the gun from Mr. Arrington’s holster. She had trouble removing it, and when she finally did, her finger accidentally went inside the trigger guard and the gun fired.

The video shows the officers helping Mr. Arrington after he was shot. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The police department investigated the incident and determined that Officer Cardwell made a mistake. They are firing her from her job.
Mr. Arrington said at a press conference in December that the shooting has made it difficult for him to do his job. He said he is planning to sue the police department.
