It looks like Tesla is gearing up to introduce wireless charging for electric vehicles, according to a recent discovery in the company’s Service Manual.
While wireless EV charging is still in its early stages, it offers a lot of benefits for users, and car manufacturers are keenly aware of this. Tesla has been exploring this technology for a while.
Last year, they acquired a company called Wiferion, which specializes in wireless charging. Although Tesla sold Wiferion a few months later, they kept the engineers to continue developing the technology in-house.
In interviews with Jay Leno in 2023, Tesla’s Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen and Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy mentioned that Tesla was working on inductive charging. This means that soon, you might be able to just park your Tesla over a charging pad in your garage without needing to plug anything in.
Many other companies are also working on wireless charging, but Tesla is now showing signs that they are close to launching this feature. A fan discovered a mention of wireless charging in the Service Manual for the Cybertruck, suggesting that this all-electric truck might be the first to offer the new technology.

Tesla had hinted at wireless charging during their Investor Day event in early 2023, so it seems likely that they are preparing to roll out this feature soon. While Tesla hasn’t given any recent updates on the technology, this new finding suggests that the rollout could happen sooner than expected.
