A woman in Mississippi has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing her estranged husband outside a courthouse.
Tanya Saucier, 49, is accused of fatally shooting her husband, James Saucier, outside the Pearl River County Chancery Courthouse in Poplarville on December 17 around 12:15 p.m.
According to police, James was pronounced dead at the scene. Tanya is now being held on a murder charge at the Lenoir Rowell Criminal Justice Center.
The shooting happened shortly after the couple had finished divorce proceedings, said James’ lawyer, Don Rafferty.
He described the situation as taking a sudden and tragic turn. Tanya’s lawyer, State Representative Jansen Owen, reportedly stopped her after the shooting occurred.
Court records reveal that James was facing charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence against Tanya after a previous shooting incident.
His trial for those charges was scheduled for March 2025. Family members expressed sadness over the tragedy, saying they wished the couple could have resolved their issues peacefully.
