Donald Trump is once again stirring up conversation with his bold ideas, this time reigniting his suggestion that the U.S. should buy Greenland.
CNN’s Scott Jennings called it an “amazing idea,” sparking a mix of amusement and skepticism... Continue reading here ▶
This isn’t the first time Trump has floated the idea of taking control of the autonomous Danish territory. He’s even joked about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau being the “governor” of the “Great State of Canada” and hinted at reclaiming the Panama Canal.
“Greenland Is Like Monopoly Properties,” Says CNN Commentator
Scott Jennings, a political commentator on CNN, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm for the Greenland proposal.
“Yes, we need Greenland,” Jennings said. “Greenland is an amazing thing to have. It’s like Monopoly — you know those cheap properties on the first row? They’re vital. You need those. I wanted him to do it before, I want him to do it now. And let me just say, I am officially applying to be the military governor of Greenland if we take control of it.”
Jennings even went so far as to suggest that securing Greenland would be a historic legacy for Trump.
“This is an amazing idea, and I know people are laughing, but if he accomplishes this, it would be a defining legacy piece for Donald Trump,” he added.
Critics Call It “Absurd”
On the other hand, Democratic strategist Maria Cardona dismissed Trump’s ideas as borderline absurd.
“I mean, seriously? Pass go, collect $200, and buy Greenland?” Cardona quipped. “It’s not just preposterous; it’s not even feasible. The same goes for the Panama Canal – we can’t just take it back because we feel like it. It doesn’t belong to us.”
Cardona urged Trump to dig into history and law before making such claims.
“Maybe Trump should read a book. The Panama Canal doesn’t belong to us, and it’s not something we can just take. History, law, and agreements matter. Just saying we want it doesn’t make it a good idea or even remotely realistic,” she said.
